End of year self-assessment

1 - You recently completed a mock exam. What feedback did you receive? And how are you going to address this?

I'm supposed to focus on analysing more and suggesting meanings. I'll address this by going into more detail about features I notice and try forcing myself to use the word "connote" after each point I make

2 - What have been the three best bits of the course so far? Why did you enjoy them? What can you do to do more of this kind of stuff?

Making the music video was one of the best bits as I liked being creative and doing something practical for once so it was a breath of fresh air.

3 - Check out the revision guide. Which part of the upcoming year are you most excited by?

I'm most excited to learn about video games

4 - Think positively. What grade are you going to get for media? How are you going to make this happen? What temporary sacrifices might you have to make? How are you going to make it enjoyable? (!?)

I want to get at least a B. I'd do this by revising the theorists and learning how to analyse in detail.

5 - What are you doing after VI form? Are you going straight in to work? An apprenticeship? Uni? Where? What grades or experience do you need? What is your end game? What is your dream job, and how are you going to make it happen?

6 - Life is more than just VI form and A-levels. What are your hobbies and interests? Do you take photos, make music, dance, go cycling? How are you going to do as much of this as possible over the summer and beyond?

7 - What's your biggest weakness in media? Don't worry, you're going to deal with this! How are you going to address it?

8 - What three revision methods work best for you? Be honest: 'reading my notes' doesn't work well for 99% of students! Remember: mixing and matching revision methods is the best way forward...

Aims and Intentions

  1. How and why will you use media language in your cross-media production? (remember, use the textual analysis toolkit!)
  2. How and why will you construct representations of individuals, groups and issues/events? (which group were you representing? Why?)
  3. How will you target your intended audience? (16-25 year olds)
  4. How will your production conform to its industry context? (How is this music video going to ensure the artist's financial success? How is your music video appropriate to a major label context, for example, does it have high production values and star appeal?)
  5. How will your cross-media production demonstrate digital convergence? (I'll need to explain this one a bit)

1. In my music video I will make intertextual references to the horror genre. The audience of 16-25 year olds will be able to recognise the Ghostface character as he is an already established horror film character. I will use dark lighting to connote a gritty undertone to the music video along with the location I chose being a dark, dingy tunnel covered in graffiti to further enforce the gritty feeling I'm trying to create. However, I will also use bright flashing colours throughout the video to subvert the typical horror conventions. The model that'll play the victim will be a woman in her 30s to give off that authentic feeling of a "typical victim" and she'll be dressed in heels with heavy makeup to give off that glamorous look. The killer himself will wear black clothing since the colour black connotes a dark tone and a sense of mystery which compliments the idea that the killer's identity is a secret. I'll make sure the music video is unique and subverts typical music videos of the horror genre c
